Chaos CERN trip

A group of people went to CERN in July. Read a summary of the trip and check out the photos here.

Happy New Year!

05th Jan 06

Well, that was 2005! I don't know about you, but the months are flying by far too quickly for my liking. Here's hoping that 2006 passes a little slower. Anyway, Happy New Year to you all from the Chaos committee and good luck with your exams if you have any, we hope that revision didn't spoil Christmas for you! Things to look forward to this term include the annual Chaos Ball, a joint lecture with the IOP and possibly a quiz! So there really is no excuse not to drown your lab/project sorrows by drinking too much and falling over!

Past and Future

08th Dec 05

We had a fantastic turn out for the Christmas meal, 103 physicists turned up at Jester's for an extremely funny and drunken night out. We packed the place out so much that I think the comics were wary of making fun of us, and instead tailored their act towards us! Although I think we all agree that the mew joke isn't that funny. I'm pretty sure everyone enjoyed themselves, but I need proof! So I want your photos. If you've got some good ones please email me and I'll get them up here ASAP.

Well, the ball survey is finally closed and again the response was fantastic, nearly 100 of you filled in the form! I was expecting only a couple of people to fill it in out of pity but no, you've all obviously been spending lots of time in the computer room trying to avoid work! The survey results are up now on the ball page and they make for some interesting reading, I suggest you check them out.

And finally, if you haven't taken a look at Google Earth recently (or at all), you should have a go now. The aerial pictures of Bristol have just been updated and you can see not just your street, but your house and your postbox as well! It's available for free download, and is already on most of the computers in the computer room.

Students 1 - Staff 0

17th Nov 05

They might be good at physics, but when it comes to 10 pin bowling the staff clearly can't cut the mustard. The first round of the staff-student sporting series has gone decisively to the students. Match report and photos coming soon!

Sports Update

11th Nov 05

For those of you that are interested in Chaos' sporting prowess, the results and match reports for the first couple of weeks are now online. The results are mixed, but all teams have shown a lot of potential! I wouldn't believe a word of the match reports though if I were you, our sports rep is most untrustworthy.

Busy Times

25th Oct 05

Well, term is only two weeks old and already Chaos have organised a whole heap of things for you to do. The textbook sale went well (and is continuing online) and the first lecture was well attended (and quite interesting!). The pubcrawl was a success, no really, go and see the photos if you don't believe me. A few people even braved a long coach journey and went to the IOP dinner (photos). We're not people that like to rest on our laurels though, we've already got another lecture lined up for you next week and some plans in the pipeline for paintballing and a trip to CERN. There are even rumours that Physbar is finally going to be open for business on friday, you heard it here first!

Welcome Back!

4th Oct 05

So you're back in Bristol an you're bored already? Fear not! Chaos is here to help. We've already got lots of events lined up for your enjoyment, whatever your interests are! First up is the textbook sale on Monday 10th October, followed rapidly by the fresher's pub crawl on Thursday 13th October. This is a great chance for fresher's to meet each other and for other years to meet the freshers! There will be some free drinks at the start of the pubcrawl so come and get some of your money back striaght away! Tuesday 18th October is the date of the first physics lecture, on the Cassini-Huygens mission. There will be free hot drink and biscuits for all who attend! Finally there is the IOP Einstein dinner on the 15th of October. Whew! That's just for October! Also keep an eye on the sports pages for the contact details for the team captains. Anyone is always welcome to join a team, whether you're a hardened professional or just want to work off a hangover!

Results Day

18th Aug 05

Good luck to everyone who is picking up their A-Level results today. Congratulations to those of you who got your offers and are coming to Bristol next term. Commiserations to those of you who didn't get your offers and are coming to Bristol as a second choice or through clearing. Don't worry about it too much though, you'll have more fun at Bristol anyway, promise!

New Website

13th Aug 05

The new website is finally here! Not that there was much wrong with the old one, just some content and design tweaks. It will be much easier to change the site layout now, so watch out for when I get bored! There is also an accessibility statement and a news feed for those of you that use RSS. Keep checking back regularly, this is your one-stop shop for all things Chaos related!
