Chaos Sports!

Whether you are a fresher or a returning student why not get involved in some of the sporting opportunities that Chaos has to offer in 2011/2012? There is an unfortunate stereotype that Physicists are incapable of showing any athletic prowess so help us dispel this myth and really take it to the other societies this year. There is a whole host of sports to get involved in for boys and girls (please don't hesitate to join teams girls! You are doing a Physics degree, you might as well embrace being surrounded by men!) which are listed below...

sport fun

Please note that if you are interested look out for Facebook groups that will be set up in September to gauge interest for the teams so we know what we are going to register for at the start of the year!!

11-a-side football

This years team finished in mid table glory and made a good go of it in the cup, reaching the quarter finals. We need some new blood for next year so why not come training and see if its for you. We know that most first years play for their halls, but join us, we're better (at least for having a laugh anyway!!). There's also the staff student match at the end of the year to look forward to. Matches are every Wednesday at 2 p.m and training is (usually!) Sunday mornings. Captain is Christian Gilson

5-a-side football

Matches take place in the sports centre on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (but each day is a different league, so this year we were every Tuesday). Matches took place in Cotham school on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, which is apparently a very good pitch. Labs will interfere with this so it definitely wont be just the same five people playing every week! Captain is Joseph Jenkinson

Hockey

We didn't have much interest for Hockey this year so it would be great to get a team up and running for next year. It happens up at Coombe Dingle sports centre (which is close to the Stoke Bishop Halls) every weekend and goalkeeping kit is provided.

Netball

We had a lot of initial interest in Netball last year, which also takes place at Coombe Dingle on weekends. It would be good to get a few more involved this year so there's a good squad of players. Captain is Rosie Sperring

Basketball

The team did well last year but I think we are in need of some players in younger years for this years team.

Badminton

For the league that Chaos enters the Badminton teams have to be mixed. Matches are fortnightly on the weekend at the sports centre. Captain might be Sam Wood!

They are the sports that chaos usually enters teams for so as you can see there is a great deal of opportunity to get involved. Some of the teams do socials too so it's a great way to get to meet people when you are in first year. As has been said, keep an eye out for the Facebook groups that will be set up to gauge interest in September and make sure you get yourself down to Fresher's Fair in the first week of October to sign up for Chaos Membership!

I'm your sports rep, Jamie Worth jw9144@bristol.ac.uk, and I look forward to seeing you next year!
